Freddy grew up in Decatur, Illinois, the youngest of three children in a family of tournament waterskiers. Growing up and competing on a regional and national scale, Freddy was rarely the best skier in his division due to being extremely small for his age. That lack of size and strength would lay the groundwork for extreme determination and focus to find a “better” way to fly and not just rely on strength. At the age of 20, Freddy began his professional career starting the 1995 season at 5’7” tall and 120 pounds competing against the giants of the sport that he had looked up to all his life. Taking that determination and intense focus to the water, Freddy won two MasterCraft Pro Tour Events in his rookie season, serving notice that he was a force to be reckoned with. Over the next 26 years Freddy accumulated more than 148 professional wins, 8 world records, 5 world titles, and a ski fly world record of 312 feet, arguably making him the winningest men’s jumper in history. This year, Freddy celebrates his 30th year as a MasterCraft athlete. When he’s not hitting the jump ramp, he loves to help develop new products for the industry and spend time with his wife, Karen Truelove, and their two boys, Dash and Ridge.
