Laser Jet and don't let anyone talk you out of it. Its cheaper....Way cheaper in the long run...

I have the HP color 3600 but as long as its a laser jet you won't be buying ink and having crappy prints. I've had it 7 years and still using the original color cartridges it came with.

Also using a $50 duplex laser that I bought 5 years ago. I'm on a refill but that was about 20 bucks, for 10000 pages. Laser all the way. Color lasers are even reasonable, depending on your home office needs.
boats rock, but don't rock the boat

This is the one my wife uses for Real Estate at home. You want laser for sure and if you want color, this one has been great so far. Toners will cost some money....but that's like anything.

HP ColorLaserjet MFPM476dw

Here is the current, latest version....

Not sure the recent links are "budget" per OP, but look like great values.
Prior boats - (3) X14's, (3) Prostars, and a Tristar.

I just went through the same debate for home / Office printer .. I kept getting pissed off paying 50-60-70$ for stupid ink cartridges. Yea a printer is 99$ but you'll get shafted for ink.. I spent a little more and went laser and not looking back ...

I use a Brothers MFC-J6920DW, because I have to print 11x17.

It’s the best printer I have had to date. I have also pitched a variety of HP’s in the trash over the past 12 years.

I have an inkjet printer and I am done with buying ink cartridges. I am always having to cycle to clean the ink heads to get a good printout. Printer was cheep to purchase, but ink has been expensive.

When my ink is gone, I plan to replace it with a laserjet printer.
