What are these “spots”

2017 XT21 new in August, only 45 hours. These showed up on my front handrails and ZFT4 tower uprights/based. They are perfectly smooth, just discoloration. Nothing takes it off and I won’t try polish as it’ll destroy the anodizing. What is this stuff?? Ineffective anodizing? Not to happy about this on a 90k boat.

Clear coat degrading or coming off? Probably a good idea not to mess with it until you can figure out more. Maybe there's a anodizer in your area you can see if they have any ideas?

Acid rain?

I think its a warranty issue. Try putting a claim into your local dealer so they can track vs your 5 yr warranty.

Allright, thanks guys. I put a call into Nisswa Marine last week. I'll keep you posted on what happens. I tried all the MC approved cleaners to no avail. It is definitely something with the anodizing. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that MC steps up to the plate on this.

There is no clear coat on these anodized parts and it does not just "come off" like paint or some form of coating. The clear bright anodized finish is basically etched/embedded into the surface layer of aluminum parts and is very hard to remove along with typically being resistant to corosion.

The outer layer won't peel off however it can be harmed by cleaners/chemicals that attack aluminium which looks like has possibly happened to these pieces somehow. Definitely contact your dealer but not sure they will do anything for you unfortunately.
