Airguide Pitot Replacement/Fiberglass Fix
Hey Friends,
Just bought a 1997 PS 205 LT-1 that has a couple maintenance items: 1. The pitots for the airguide speedos are both broken. Anyone know where to get replacements? Also, will I need to replace the tubes? I saw a new style of Pitot on Discount Inboard, does anyone know if those work well? 2. The screw holes for the floorplate connected to the rear of the motorbox are broken and very stripped out. using larger screws won't work. Is there a good way to fill in the holes and re-drill them? What could I use to fill in the holes? Thanks! |

On the pitot pickups, get the teleflex pickups from skidim. They are less prone to clogging than the originals. Drill two holes in the new pickup using your old airguide pickup as a template. Give the screws and holes a good coat of 3M marine sealant and screw the new pickups on. Attach the tubes and you should be good to go. The original pickups are hard to come by and priced pretty high every time I've seen them come up used.
From memory, that piece that you motorbox attaches to is pretty small. You could fill the holes with epoxy putty, reinforce the underside with some hdpe, and some heavy duty washers, then reset your bolts and nylock nuts.

I replaced my old Airguide pitots with the Skidims this spring (same tubes, just opened up the holes on the new pitots with a drill bit to fit the old holes in the hull, didn't use the third upper mounting hole on the new pitots). They work great.

Thanks guys, very helpful!
On the floor screw repair, the holes are in the ledge that runs along the bilge. Can you clarify where to put those washers? |

Anyone know how fast the boat should go? It's an 1997 PS 205 with LT-1 and a 1:1 transmission. Also has the 3-blade stock prop. I'm guessing I'll have to dial in the speedos when I get them working.

43 to 44 mph + or - depending on the wind if everything is perfect.

I just drive mine by the tach. read the RPM's and let it go 3400 rpm's 34 miles an hour.

With a 3 blade and an LT-1, I'm thinking 45 mph.
