Towing with Silverado V6

Anyone towing with a Chevy 4.6 V6? Can it handle a $5K boat for 120 mile trips?

Very casually considering trading in my Sierra for a 2019 Silverado, just to lighten the monthly payment. I don't drive the Sierra daily, and hate that it sits all week. The Silverado would save me a significant amount of money over 3 years.

I probably won't do this, but thought I'd ask for feedback. I haven't heard much, if any, discussion about this engine here.

I think you will find the 4.3 V6 will perform as good as a small v8. It will get the job done for sure but will be 2 or 3 gears lower than you would like. I have started replacing our fleet E250 4.6 V8 Fords with the GM 4.3L Savana's and the 4.3L out performs the Ford V8 in every way. The 8 speed transmission helps a lot. If someone didn't tell you it was a V6 you wouldn't know.

Thanks for the input Canwan. I probably won't be making this move, but it's good to hear the feedback.

John, are you dragging it w/o a trailer lol? Total w trailer and fuel is 6800 ish but I'd bet you would be fine. I'd say go for it.

Steve, I know the trailer adds another 1500 lbs., but could you imagine how Aric would have jumped on that question???

I phrased it the way I did because typically on this site discussion has referenced the weight of the boat when towing - I figured I'd keep it consistent.

Thanks for the input. I'll keep the Sierra for now. I just use it so little I was thinking about saving a few bucks and 'downgrading' to a newer truck, with a lot fewer options. But I think that moment has passed, lol.

I think Aric replied to the fact you said you had a $5K boat. He was referencing the price, not the weight
