Did the rtp, mcx, LQ9, LY6, and the 8.1 all have a 1" shaft? If so then I would say another 100hp on the mcx would be alright since the 8.1 was roughly 100hp more.

Equations vary its not HP so much as torque and it changes by propping and length of unsupported shaft.

MC has used bigger shafts on all the gear reduction transmissions back to the 1980s and that's largely due to the increased leverage of the larger prop and torque effect of the engine on the prop.

Similarly the HP ratings of many of these systems arent really a limit for ski boats but I would look at it strongly for wake application
