Ballast pump advice

I bought a johnson pump, 1" hose, and various other adapters including a thru-hull male to male brass fitting for 3/4" NPT, a ball valve, and hose clamps from wakemakers.com. I'm using the mid-ship drain hole to feed the pump, then it Vs off to feed the 2 750# fat sacs in the rear lockers. It takes about 17 minutes to fill/empty.

My question is, do you guys see any problem with this setup long-term? Fill/drain time isn't a concern due to how I get to my riding location. I dump the boat in the water, start the fill, and by the time we're ready to ride, the bags are full.

I rarely used that drain hole, so pulling the plug and using the thru-hull adapter hasn't changed what I do with it. I have to remember to run the bilge pump before I pull the boat out. I don't see it being any danger, since I installed a ball valve, which I always close unless filling/draining. If I ever really need to, I can undo the hose clamps and unscrew the ball valve and remove the NPT adapter (just a male to male 3/4" NPT threaded brass fitting). That would take longer than just unscrewing the drain plug, but I don't see a scenario where I would need to do it in a hurry.

Any concerns I might have overlooked?

One other question, I'm losing water out of the sacs if I don't close the ball valve. Is that normal? The first time I tested it after wiring the pump to a switch, I didn't know which direction was fill/drain, and I was so intent on finding that out that I forgot to open the ball valve. I ran the pump in both directions for several minutes before I realized my blunder. I might have partially ruined the impeller. It still fills/drains, but I think I read somewhere that the water shouldn't leak out of these pumps unless there is something wrong. On the other hand, the water pressure from two 750s instead of just one might be enough pressure to push water back out even if the impeller is in good shape. Any thoughts on that?

Yea water shouldn't siphon back out the Johnson pump. I can't see 2 750s having much more pressure that an 1100 and I never had any siphon issues with a Johnson and an 1100 sac in any install. My guess is impellar got little weak due to the dry run time. There are several colors and stiffnesses of the impellars. I would think adding a new impellar with little more resistance may do trick.

Pull yours first and inspect it.

Thanks for the advice swat! Ill probably go ahead and order another impeller from wakemakers. Wouldn't hurt to have a replacement on hand. And since where I mounted it isn't the easiest place to get at it, last thing I want is to inspect it and not have the replacement ready just in case.
