I've learned that galvanizing cast iron is generally not a good idea. One of our customers asked about galvanizing some cast iron trench grating we were getting from Neenah Foundry. Neenah is the company that makes most of the manhole covers & gutter drains, etc. in Minnesota & Wisconsin. They said that hot dip galvanizing cast iron can actually cause micro-fractures in the metal, which can lead to premature failure.
