Bruce, I just read your message today. Sorry it took so long. After updating my 05 X10 rudder to the larger 06 rudder and installing a new steering cable, all is right with the world. My boat steers effortlessly with one finger. It turns very nicely and only slightly pulls to one side when under full power. I did all the work myself. I did have to purchase the rudder with a rudder box as a complete assembly. My original rudder box was worn out. That was the biggest problem. The original 05 rudder box did not come with a grease fitting. The 06 does have a zerk fitting and i grease it every 4th time we go out. I was able to buy two grease gun hoses and couple them together. I them formed a remote mouted zerk fitting up by the top of my engine so squirting grease in is no problem.

Just read your 2009 post about the steering characteristics of your '05 X-10. I just bought a used '05 and I could have written the exact same post. Even after a brand new steering cable, turning left is almost a 2 handed exercise. Put 2 tubes behind and turning left is definitely a 2 handed task.
Did you ever get this resolved?
Thanks,
