View Full Version : 2016 X-30 Actuator Issues

Hey everyone I could use your help. I've have this boat for three seasons.

In the first season (2016) the starboard side trim tab and actuator were replaced (the tab itself somehow bent and the actuator couldn't move it (fyi there was no evidence of striking anything)). Dealer replaced in the trim tab and actuator in late spring of '17.

Last year (2017) the starboard side actuator wouldn't deploy on battery power when the boat was out of the water - the port side was fine. Dealer indicated it wouldn't deploy because battery voltage was too low.

This year (2018), with the boat still in the water, the starboard side actuator again won't deploy so now we can't surf on the port side. I know power is getting to the actuator because I hear it when I use the controls to extend and retract. The actuator just doesn't move! So... might I have a latent issue with the control box and if so, where is it located and how can I debug it? How can I further debug this issue? It is a Lenco actuator OEM part number 20402-001 (or aftermarket p/n 15057-001). FYI.. my actuators are stamped with the following codes: EBK2(port side) & EEL2 (starboard side). So far, I haven't noticed any issues with the port side actuator or trim tab!

Some Lenco actuators are cr#p. Our X25 went through a couple. Our current X23 just went south last week on an actuator. Hard to get warrantied on some of it too, because my problems generally needed water pressure to occur. They either don't deploy properly, or don't retract 100%. Current issue is not retracting at all.

You should still be under warranty. Take it in. Then wait, patiently and hope it gets warrantied.

I just had mine replaced was told lenco actuators had a recall.

There are some known issues with actuators, the most common is that the seal fails allowing water into the actuator and causing a lot of crazy things to happen . But it doesnít stop there. I would most definitely unplug the actuator harness and see if water is present, if so then go to your PDM next and unplug there as well to see if water is present in the connection .if under warranty. All-need to b replaced and the seal in the connector to the actuator needs to b removed to stop water from moving threw the harness again. I have spent my hours replacing actuators on all different makes and models.i have found that some work flawlessly and others donít last a season , in an effort to gauge whatís going on I have deconstructed several to find a solution but I have not had the ah ha moment yet, still working on it, on thing is for sure that I have recently done is to create an open connection to stop water from traveling up the harness. So all u basically lose is just the actuator and nothing else. All this is said assuming that the batteries are 100 percent good and the rite ones and the battery switch is in good shape as well.i hope this helps and if I can help you please let me know thank yíall..

I have a 2017 xt21. Port side failed in July this year. I live 3 hours from the dealer. He was backlogged with many boat repairs. I removed the actuator and disassembled it to find it full of water. Removed the other two and found one was damp inside and the third one was in perfectly good operating condition and dry. After a call to my dealer, he sent me a new set of three and I replaced all three under warranty. The repair took 3 hours and we were back on the water. If you are looking to inspect yours, remove one nut on the top, pull the pin at the bottom. You will find two star screws on the top of the actuator, remove them and the top plate will pop off. Inside the top plate, there is an o-ring used to seal the unit.

on my 2015 x30 I had one of the side actuators replaced at the beginning of the season. Earlier this month I had to have the other side actuator replaced. Both under warranty.

I'm beginning to wonder how long these will last.

Iíve had a few replaced. With Lencoís 3 year warranty vs Bennett Bolt electric lifetime warranty, makes me strongly consider converting especially since Iím out of mastercraft warranty.

Thank you for all the feedback. After this post, I contacted Lenco directly. They gave me some ideas on how to debug the issues which might include swapping the actuator connectors at the control board. Once I get back to the boat, I will debug further.

As it turns out, these actuators are still under warranty and the MC dealer we use will fix them.

On a side note, this past weekend I turned off the Auto Launch (this disables the constant deploying and retracting of the trim tabs on every launch) when tubing the kids. I think this will save wear and tear on the actuators. Only another full season of boating will tell!

Can you give me the Lenco Contact so I can give it to my dealer. My dealer and a few others are working on an issue where the tabs will change on their own. you will stat out at 100% and they can work them selves down to 35% after several surf sessions.

To your issue, do you also find fine adjustments to the tabs (<5%) very difficult to hit on your NXT?

This was addressed in another thread by FourForty. Check his profile page and you will find it. There is a fix for this.
