I have an 85 Stars and Stripes. Reluctant to put a Wakeboard tower on it (purist), but would like to have a decent stereo installed so that the skier(s) could hear. Any suggestions/solutions would be welcomed.

Slalom skiers are too focused/puckered to listen to tunes, no?

Noooooo on the tower. If your interests are changing- switch rigs. Putting a tower on that beauty is a giant misstep

Agreed. Sell it to me and use the funds to get a boat with a tower :-)

Putting a tower on a classic beauty like that should be an actual crime punishable with jail-time.

Your boat so if its what you want do it. I put a handicap railing on the gunnel of my last boat and mounted a wakeboard rack to it. I posted a pic of it on here and got laughed at. It may have looked ridiculous but it was very functional and I loved it.

FINALLY, something that MC25 and I agree on completely.

No. No. No. No. No. No. No.

Agreed. Or, just take the boat away from him and give him a malibu.

Your boat, your party amigo.

That being said, I wouldnt. Get you an extended pylon and throw some speakers on that, there's a couple threads here and around the web showing how some guys have done it. That way you get your speakers and keep your resale when you go to get rid of it.

Put a tower on it. Its your boat. You can always go back and get the holes filled in and touched up

I agree.
I'm only a recreational slalom, trick, wakeboard, and barefoot skier. I have never once in my 30+ years of skiing, ever had the stereo turned on while the boat was underway. I prefer the hum of the exhaust :D

But on topic, I don't care what other people do with their boats but I'd hate to see a tower on that boat.

I wouldnt, I would get a sky high pole with racks and a bimini maybe one with a zipper it can go through. in fact now that I think of it, i did exactly that with my 1991 prostar. Kind of best of both worlds.

its your boat bought and paid for, do what you like for you and yours. Put what you want on it and enjoy! I did, and the tower we love makes the ugly tower thread bi-weekly.

No ghost rider... those boats are made for little tiny wakes... complete opposite of what your wanting. It's like putting a jeep rubicon sticker on a sport model.

On a true classic like that 85 S&S I would vote no tower. Here are a couple ideas with an extended pylon. Not beautiful by any means but is totally removable /reversible.

I generally try to stay out of these threads because I'm a firm believer in the "it's your boat, do what you want with it" philosophy. We put a nd mini tower on our 190 and it was one of the most practical improvements we made to that boat. Stylistically, it matched the boats lines while consolidating the Bimini and ski storage as well as giving us an additional tow point. That being said, I would never put a tower on your S&S. One, it's a classic and awesome as is. Two, you'll never find a tower that will match the lines of that boat like the later models can. And third, see number one again.
If you need the functionality, I like the extended pylon idea for that boat.

I like this speaker hanger personally, works well with the lines of the boat.
Stop by the 'Ugly Tower' thread before you pull the pin on one though, it may help those deliberations.

Putting a tower on any boat should be jail-able offense.

Don't ruin the lines of your classic boat.

Putting a tower on a boat is the marine equivalent of this:

No tower; No tower; No tower. Get a boom box for your skier or let him bring his own with ear buds.
Beautiful boat, just picturing a tower makes it unbeautiful.

Is there an extended pylon that offers a slalom rope attachment point? The OP wants tunes for slalom, so it looks like the extended pylons shown won't work for that?

Music loud enough to hear when going 30+ MPH and cutting back and forth over the wake. I would be more worried about falling than hearing music.

I pass judgement no way, your boat, you do you! Looks better without IMO, but you have to look at all the time.

Clamp on one sure would. They clamp on the bow or port side which would leave the slalom attachment point open and free.

How about just pitting some Beats in plastic bag and wearing them while skiing? LMAO

I had the Air Boom that is pictured above (without racks and speakers) on my 87 Prostar and it had a slalom attachment at the normal level but I never used it. It was the little circle with a hook in the middle. When I slalomed, it was only from the boat pylon.

Take a good long look at the lines of your boat. I really feel a tower will take away from those loooong lines. Get the extended pylon for you boarding etc. you can remove that when done and go back to original. There are several S&S on our lake with the extension. They all seem to feel this way. Best wishes, it's your boat, be proud of it and show it off.;)

Where do you find something like that? Does it go over a stock pylon?
