Hello all, lurker here finally about to pull the trigger on his first MC.

My dad has been rocking an 87 Prostar 200 for the last 15 or so years, and I've been living the life of an adolescent with my No-Windshield J-Craft...but it's time to upgrade.

I've been looking for a Prostar 190 most actively, but also Prostar or Barefoot 200s. Looking in the ages of 88-91, I love the look of the fighter jet windshield.

Now, I've found a 1989 Prostar 190 relatively close to home (hard to come by up north of the border) Interior looks mint, 665 hours on the Ford 351 engine. Not sure which transmission, but he'd including the trailer, a full boat and a snap cover, plus a barefoot boom for $7000CAD which works out to $5125USD. Best I can tell that's market value, if not a little better. Any thoughts?

Wow 5k for a mastercraft. I have more money in my inflatable Achilles and 8hp Yamaha engine. If it runs strong and it's what you want what else more is there to say.

Holy ****. You're considering? You should be BUYING. That's a great deal on a clean looking boat. Get off the fence my good man.

Not many negatives if it checks out mechanically. Looks like the trailer and vinyl are good/decent. I like the colors. Not crazy about the snaps on the hull, but that is a pretty minor complaint.

That looks like a great deal! I would be all over it as a Prostar like that in Kawarthas or Muskoka be in the 12-15k CAD range typically!

I also would not sell the Jcraft.. that is a legendary boat around here for barefooting and skiing (long as its a Jcraft 19 and not 17 or 16)

I am biased :)

if it were a 19, we wouldn't be having this conversation ;) 17' long deck with an evinrude 140 v4. First boat, so she's my baby and i'll be sad to see her go...but I think this is a good upgrade.

Looks like a good deal, just make sure you water test it, let the temp get up, shut down then restart a couple of times.......that's when older boats will show their warts.

I've seen a few MCs here go for way below what they would fetch in the States, people don't seem to value them quite so much. I practically stole my '86

If the water test and perhaps compression test check out that is a NFB - no brainer. Do it.

Let's see pics of the Jcraft at rest and at WOT? She must haul arse.

For $5k, jump on it. Looks like a 1:1 trans by glancing at the pic. A quick way to know for sure (aside from climbing in the boat), is if the engine is mounted level, it's a slot. If it's angled towards the stern it's a 1:1.

Go buy it today, if you haven't already:)

It's a steal if it tests ok

Here are some photos of the J...not many of it opened up as Im usually driving. I'll let the faces of the passengers in the last pic do the talking for hauling arse tho...

Yeah the Prostar will be great for you! Do it! 350 is easy for repairs and maintenance also

It's actually a Ford 351, but yes, easy repairs and maintenance just the same.

Haha @ the last pic!

I'm diggin' the old man's BF 200 too :headbang:

A 190 would be a very nice addition to the family.

That is definitely the 1:1 transmission, no extra gear box on the output. Powerslot will also have a 14 inch prop and larger shaft. I had an identical 87 that I traded in to a dealer for $6K a long time ago (like an idiot). I could have gotten a LOT more for it selling it myself.

I've never heard of a powerslot engine being mounted flat? My powerslot engine mounted the same as my neighbor's 1:1.

Could be a wives tale I suppose, but that's what our MC tech said back in the day, when we had our '88 powerslot. We also had a '92 205 1:1, and you could see the engine was angled more than the 190 when they were sitting next to each other.

Sorry friend, Montreal location. I'm probably going to take it, but I don't want you waiting anxiously for no reason :)
