My insurance jumped $50 for the year. Never had a claim, nothing different, just more expensive. Anyone else experience the same thing?

Not complaining too much, but went from $335 up to $385.

Hmm. How long you had them? This is going to be the 4th season for me with this boat. Wonder if they have some 3 year same premium deal then start bumping up.

mike, they are probably going off a 4 year loss ratio in your area. not designed to be at you but losses as a whole in that district.

Maybe you could sell some MC tee shirts to offset the cost of your insurance? :D

Wow, those rates are much lower than what I pay thru State Farm (all my insurance is thru them). Guess I should call Ski Safe and inquire.

New boat so when I called them to transfer it was going to increase about $100 to about $380. 88 tristar to 03 SANTE. I told them that was ridiculous even though the boat was worth a lot more, and I have the paperwork for the previous owners insurance through Geico, and it was $320. About 5 minutes later he said he would match the $320. ALWAYS ask for discounts. This will be my 4th season with them, and he said he was giving me the 5 year discount.

I have State Farm for everything else, and usually they have good rates. Boats, however, are based on a horsepower to length ratio, and that doesn't bode well for tow boats. We usually have high horsepower engines in a smaller vessel, and to an insurance company that means we can scoot across the water at 80+mph. We all know that's not happening.

SkiSafe has been good so far, just wasn't expecting a bump. I'll have to call them or shop around.

Try Foremost. No layup period and inexpensive.

I think I paid $250 last year from Safeco. I'll check that though. I actually had to use it last year and they were easy to work with.

edit - Screw it, I'll just stick with skisafe. I hate shopping for this crap over 50 bucks.

Shopping for or buying issuance or cars is always a pain in the dick. Just hate dealing with them or it.

^Couldnt have said it better!
I'm not sure it matters much on the boat value. Old Prostar like 8 years ago was like $300 a year stated value of I recall right.
X2 stated value about 4x as much when I signed it up 8 years ago for about $300. Now it's still 3hundred something bucks and still insured for the same value which is kind of high even though it's retained its value almost 100%.
I'm not complaining, it's one of a few things don't seem to get overcharged for.

House insurance has been jacking me on every house every year for the last few years it seems though. No claims.

Mine's $923 or $1016 if i want to pay monthly and thats with a 3 month lay-up.
Even allowing for the US-Aus $ conversion that's a bloody big difference.

Wow, that seems high, I am just shopping for my first ski boat and wanting a vintage S&S boat. I am quite surprised at reading this thread as I have a 39' cabin cruiser that i can buy liability only for $75 bucks and 40k agreed for $319 through Boat US/Geico

I was paying $509 for Metlife. I just switched to Skisafe with the same coverage levels and got it for $304. Geico and Progressive were pretty close to Skisafe but they didn't offer freeze protection. State Farm was a little higher than Metlife.
