My friend has a '77 S&S that's he's getting ready to sell and doesn't know what the size is of the motor. Can anyone tell me if they offered multiple engine choices in '77 or how to tell which one it is? It is still the original PCM motor.

I'm assuming your talking 302 vs. 351w. The easiest way to tell these two apart is to look at thermostat housing. Look at the bottom of housing if its pretty much even with the top of the timing cover its a 302, if there is about a 1" air gap then its a 351. The 351 is taller and wider, 302 used 7/16" head bolts, 351w used 1/2" head bolts. You can remove the starter motor and look for the casting numbers and cross reference.

Yes, that's what I meant. We should be able to figure it out from your description. Thanks!
