Just wanted to introduce myself to all of you MasterCraft people! Just made the transition from runabout to a new 2014 MasterCraft Prostar OB! Put a few hours on the put this weekend and have already fallen in love! Skiing behind this thing is absolutely unreal! We are located in southern IN. Please feel free to leave any tips or comments!

You went from a Hyundai Accent to a Ferrari 458! What was the runabout you had?

I hope you have lots of smooth water and little floating buoys planned for that beauty!

It was a major leap! It was a 19ft. V6 Ebbtide. Still have it if anyone in the Midwest area is looking for a cheap, used boat.

I ski at Ball State University and got the chance to spend some time behind the Nautique, Malibu, and MC. The ProStar was by far the best slalom wake, in my opinion. Had been wanting a true inboard for years!

That's a great story!! What year boats did you ski behind?

Just a heads up, your under a 4 hour drive to the lake we have the Buckeye Bash each year and this year we have Wade Cox who is going to be there. If your not busy August 15 and 16 you should bring your family and boat over and hang out with other MC owners. We would LOVE to drool over your ride!!

Skied behind the 2013's last year. All Demo boats. I must say, with this new hull design the wake is even better! Thanks for the invite, that will be the weekend right before I head back to school. There is a chance we will make it. Would love to meet you all!

Congratulation! I'm waiting for my first MC too. I've ordered a Prostar with the same colors but not the same pattern. It's supposed to arrive in Canada in middle of June. I'm so excited! I had a '09 SN196 and I hope not to be disappointed.

Congrats Tyler and nice jump! Are you on the ski team at Ball State or just a student? My brother and sister-in-law went to BSU but graduated around 2011 or so. I live in Indy. I'm assuming you stick to the private lake right? I get to Monroe, Geist, Mississinewa, and others around.

I'm on the ski team. Yes, I'm on a decent size private lake. Welcomed to join for a run behind the boat anytime!

Also, quick question….
Is it normal to have about an inch of water under the engine cover that the bilge won't pick up? Obviously not used to the whole true ski boat thing! Would appreciate a response!

Quick answer,no.

Jeff d

You effectively asked two questions:
-Yes it is normal that the bilge pump can't get the last 1" or so of water out.
-Technically you should not have any water leaking in there though. In practice it is pretty "normal" though. It's rare to find an inboard that doesn't leak a drop either via the prop shaft seal, rudder seal, exhaust ports, cooling system, plug threads, ballast system (which I assume you don't have), etc. Older models with a traditional packing nut on the prop shaft had to leak some by design to keep it lubricated and cool. More recent boats with dripless seals like yours shouldn't leak. Since it's under warranty you could have the dealer check it out.

Thank you for the answer, can't be completely sure that it's leaking. It's interesting to me that the bilge is mounted at the front of the engine, where the water generally stands in the rear behind the engine. With skiers getting in and out, and the occasional wave coming over the bow it's hard to say whether there is a leak or not. Regardless, I assume that I should not be concerned if it isn't enough for the bilge to pick it up? Thanks for the help!

Well, take it out on the water without skiing to be sure it's not just normal water from getting in and out. Does the bilge pump ever kick on if you have it in the "Auto" position?

tylerprostar
06-01-2014, 09:58 PM
I have not noticed it kick on, and unfortunately I'm really not sure where the bilge hole is on the boat? Can anyone help with that? On the side, back, etc?

On my 2012 X7 it is located drivers side roughly in line with the bottom of the windscreen. Looking at your photo with your wife in the boat, it's just in front of the sticker.

I do bet some water also.....but not heaps

Thanks Tony, got a chance to check it out this evening. You were correct. I may towel it before skiing next, and see if additional water appears.
