Can a faulty sending unit cause the check engine light/audible warning to come on?
It seems my oil pressure gauge has a lot of needle movement when turning sharply and then on occasion the check engine warning activates. When I shut down and restart, it doesn't do it again until I turn sharply? I thought it may be a faulty oil pump?

Not sure but the first thing I would check is the oil level. If it is low, it can cause exactly what you are describing. I have had it happen in cars that way.

I am checking similar issue with oil pressure gauge, I found this document and it has helped me find the problem. I think I have a bad sender wire
