Gents,
We have a new to us 2007 Maristar 230 VRS. Wonderful boat. My wife's edict is that is must have a bimini top. Sooo, a Mastercraft Bimini, or a tower, probably Roswell or New Dimensions for budget reasons, with a bimini installed? The dealer installed bimini only is $1,400, probably $2,500 for a tower, with a bimini, if I can install it myself. Three daughters, none boarding yet, but perhaps someday. Looking for advice, and I'm a military guy so the budget is tight. Ready-----go!!!

1st off, thank you for your service. an 07 is a relatively "new" hull. it was current up to '11 so it will have good resale potential. having said that, i would be wary of installing anything non-mastercraft. i fully understand budget constraints, however, as a future buyer of an 06-11 X30, i would be fine with the 230 with the "X" tower. i, and i would guess many other MC buyers, would not be interested in a 230 with a non OEM tower. if budget only permits a bimini, i'd stop there. you don't have to have a tower to wakeboard. i'm not sure, but you may even be able to add a fly high extension to the existing pylon like the direct drive guys if you want to elevate the tow point.

I have a 2000 Maristar 210 and went through the same decision. I think $1,400 for a bimini is kind of crazy. If you can afford a New Dimension Tower and Bimini for $2,500 vs. $1,400 for a bimini only, I would try to go that route. A tower will let you carry a lot more gear and for $1,100 more I would would rather have that capability. With your family, you are not going to want to have boards and gear laying around the boat and a tower is probably the best way to free up floor space.

I ended up getting a non-mc tower and for some reason, I am still perfectly happy. I did get my bimini through towerbiminis.com and I recommend them.

If you end up getting bimini only, make sure that it will be compatible with a tower. Because I can almost guarantee you will want a tower in the future.

Have fun with the boat and family!!!!

Of course, this is only my opinion.....

Verdict---Get a Tower!! We are trying to find a tower/bimini combo that will work. Here is the catch. The height from the garage floor to the top of the windshield of our 2007 Maristar 230 is 84". Inside of garage door, 88". Any suggestions for towers that fold within 4" of the windshield height? The New Dimension tower is 34" over the mount point, which is about 65", so it would be 99"--a no-go. Thanks in advance!

what you all think, next is continue stereo upgrade , added fly high ballast bars for surfing with full stock tanks. I also added the wet sounds EQ and blue tooth device.

I would hold out for a factory tower. I know the 07 towers are pricey though so I would understand the urge to go aftermarket. Just understand that when you go to sell you will reduce your buyers pool.

I just put a big air wake towers tower on mine (bigairwaketowers.com) and love it, easy to install yourself, has a nice Bimini that attaches even easier and like you I needed it to fold to get into the garage which it does with ease.
