View Full Version : Perfect It or Finesse it for cover scratches

I've finally realized the dullness in my gelcoat is from a cover rub...

Will that level rub/scratch require Perfect it or just Finesse it.
I'll be using a Circular electric buffer. Still undecided between foam and wool/wool blend pads!!!

Yes, I've asked about buffing before.

Try the finesse it first with a foam pad. You can always go back with more but why do the work if you don't have to.

I had better luck with a wool pad than a foam pad when working with finesse it

I've had good luck with a wool pad, Finesse It, followed by foam pad and wax.

I've done this for many years. I've used all of it. Here's what i would do.

Get 3M heavy Duty compound
5" Tangerine Lake County Foam Pad
Follow up with a medium polish (I use Menzerma)
5" White Lake County Foam Pad
Apply a good grade sealer (I like Blackfire, but Menzerma is good too)
5" Red or Gold Lake County pad

Wool pads are crap, tons of swirls, tones of wool crap all over everything. I have a wool pad and every time I start to use it, I end up moving back to a foam pad.
