I am looking at picking up a used shoremaster vertical lift for 1900 bucks with a wheel kit and canopy. I have a prostar 190 (2001) that has a reported weight of 2600 lb according to the MC manual. This is dry weight. The lift I am looking at is a 3000 lb lift. Do you think this is adequate for my boat? Thanks!

Well, 25 gallons of gas is about 150 lbs.

I agree, we have a 03 209, we went with the 4000# lift, $850 bow stop, and 4 vertical "lift guides".

Good luck!

I would think it would be fine. But for piece of mind, call the manufacturer and ask what is different on the 3000# vs the 4000#. I suspect maybe just the cable and pulleys. For $1,900 that's tough to pass up.

I went throught this too. The only difference between the 3000 and 4000 is the winch ratio. I have my 84 S&S on a 3000# Shore Station. Before the lift was mine it held my dads 91 Tristar which i know was heaver than your prostar. I say buy it. For piece of mind, I was told I could upgrade to the 4000# winch for $900 with all work done by my local Boat and Pier Co.

I would err on the side of overkill. My father in law has a 98 205 and went with the 6,000 lb lift. We do not worry. I'm thinking 4,000 lbs would be more than adequate though.

I'll second blake on this one. The wench is the only difference on a 3k and 4k lift. I have a 97 PS205 on a 4k lift with no problem. But now I bought a motor and the ratio means nothing to me. Buy it!

I might have a 4k wench under the deck at the lake house

She must be pretty big. Hopefully you throw her scraps once in awhile. I keep my 130lb wench in the house. She's only a wench once in a while. ;)

I keep my 4k winch at the lakehouse.

Hilarious! Thanks for all the replies. I guess as a MC owner I am an "overkill" kinda guy. I still have reservations about the capacity, so I think I will wait a bit to see of something bigger comes along.
