I am thinking about buying an X2 but we do a lot of footing off the boom. We foot at around 43mph so I was wondering if the X2 is fast enough. Can someone please tell me what top speed can be achieved with the MCX or do I need the LY6? or will it simply not be fast enough.
Also whilst I am at it..... does the X2 have a lot of chine spray?

Yes '06-'12 its fast enough with some to spare but long line it really not a great of a boat 205v hull is far better choice
I long line behind my Xstar and plenty of speed and wake crossing not bad either

Friend has an 09 X2 with the Mcx - it will not go 43.

I had a 2009 X2 with the MCX and 43-44 mph is just about top speed, but than you need a gas station next to your dock to fill her up every few hours.

I just think it is not the best MC out there to foot.....

Good luck with your search

I don't have any answers. But you will prob need to verify which derivative of the X2 your thinking about purchasing, if new or secondhand, and then if new, the Ilmor engines will probably perform slightly differently.

Im thinking about importing a second hand X2 from the states, Possibly 09 onwards depending on the deals available. I am not up to speed with the new motor configurations. My previous MC's had Indmar MCX and LY6 motors. Which year did MC chance to the new motor supplier? and what difference will this change of motor make?

I was just watching the videos of the X2 on the MC website..... The chine spray looks horrific. It looks like it would be ugly off the boom.

I,m the friend, no way with the MCX & stock 14.75X15.5 OJ prop the boat will do 43, maybe with a a different prop, but then everything else the boat does well will suffer. Best I can get is maybe 41, 3 people in the boat, smooth water, down hill and tail wind:D I think chine spray with boom would be an issue too. The boat is 3500# & an 8' beam, not your best footin choice. - I'd like to try the OJ 5 blade to see if the top end could improve and still maintain good hole shot weighted, fuel eco etc. Maybe this summer.

I have a 07 X2 and it's no bare foot boat. It wasn't designed for that duty and pretty much drives like a bus in comparison to boats like the 197 which would probably be a much better choice. The X2 is a fine boat for other sports and we love ours however if we did any amount of bare footing it would be off my consideration list.

I had a '07 X2 for one month had to exchange it because it really sucked for barefooting.
If you're thinking boom only get the tower mount boom it'll get you out of the spray.

 I have tried the tower boom on my 06 X2 and it can be done but its not fun! Spray is terrible and maintaining 40mph is kinda tough.:D

I can tell you that with my 2011 X2 43 would be really pushing it, I have mine propped for boarding and surfing so I don't know if I can even get to 40

I am not big into barefooting but I can foot behind my 08 x2 long line not problem. I have not tried it on a boom but have been told if I do to be sure to get the tower boom. I am not sure what top speed is because I normally foot at about 37 But i think it is about 40. Like I said before I am not big into footing so I may be totally off but do you really need to go 43 that seems like it is fast unless you are a big guy.

Does anyone out there know how fast the X2 with the LY6 will go?

X-2 with a LY6 GPS is 44-45 with the stock prop.

What prop do you have for boarding and surfing? Does it make a big difference? Sorry, don't mean to hijack the thread.

ACME 1285 is a good prop.

Acme 1285 I believe, a little pricey but worth it. I do not know how it works but my dealer put that on for me when I dinged a prop and it throws a cleaner wake and definetely improves hole shot. I am assuming since it is machined it puts out cleaner water. It was a big enough difference that every person that rides with me made a comment about how good the wake was that day and none of them knew I had changed props.

Thanks Jason but that speed at 44-45 with the LY6 seems a large improvement on the MCX.... Are you sure about this?

It seems reasonable to expect a 3+ mph increase up top with the more powerful 6.0L (LY6).

Like I said before I am not big into footing so I may be totally off but do you really need to go 43 that seems like it is fast unless you are a big guy.
Even as a "not quite a big guy" (6', 195 lbs), 43mph (before adding the load of a footer) wouldnt get it done for me. I want the boat to hold at least 43-44 for one footers.

Realistically the Ly6 is almost 70hp more and the gear ratio is different so 4-7 mph more out of a LY6 is very reasonable. As far as holding power, we can fix that with the right prop too! An LY6 in a X-Star will do 47-48mph.

I footed behind my buddies X2 w/ LY6 last summer. It had plenty of speed....but crossing the wake was....shall we say....an adventure. That being said, the water between the wakes was much better than I expected. If you boom it, I have been told at a minimum you need the extension.

Ok ok... I think we solved the FAST thing... Now how to we make it LOUD!?!?!?

If it is an 08, it is already loud! 07 is very quiet and has less power due to the exhaust tips.

I think willy was referencing a joke from a while ago. The 08 was loud though compared to my 09

My 08 sounds like a uncorked F 150 in Panama City during high school spring break.
