After a lengthy search, it all came to an end this weekend. Total travel time of 20 hours straight.... but got it home safely after going through it with a fine tooth comb and one very chilly ski run.

Thanks everybody. I have been reading the forum for a long time, but didnt want to join till I had my own, ya know fit in with the cool kids.

I know this is not surprising to anyone, but finding a well cared for older boat is really hard. Took me forever to find one that was ideal, but this is as close to perfect as an 89 gets.

Thanks for all the compliments.....

Nice!! I like the color combo. The red looks good. Curious what it cost you. I picked up an 88 this summer, not quite as nice condition as yours (bad vinyl on rear seat, surface rust on engine, few other cosmetic issues, 1-2 mechanical issues) with a 2-axle trailer with surge brakes for $3500. Based on other prices I've seen for similar vintage boats, I think I did well.

Nice boat! I picked up an '89 Prostar powerslot this June, well cared for w/ 325 hours. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was going to be mine and the test drive confirmed it. I, for one wanted a simple boat to be used mostly for skiing. As you know, compared to the new boats the late 80's lack in bells and whistles. But, simplicity (ease of repair/maintenance), low operating cost, classic styling they just can't be beat. Not to mention it fits into a 'normal' sized garage. Oh, and when you say 'hit it' it does what it's supposed to do:)
I like that color combination and the engine looks really clean! Have you cleaned anything up, or was it like that when you bought it?

gweaver.... I will simply say I paid substnatially more than the $3500 you spent.... but these boats, depending on where you are at geographically can still bring 8-10 grand in excellent shape. But still, $3500 sounds like a steal.

d2jp....That is exactly how I picked it up. I did nothing to it in those pitcures. It was very clean and the owner was very anal about its condition... As I am... and thats why it took me so long to find a boat LOL

You found a nice one. And, I agree prices vary widely - and a good one is worth $8-10K.

d2jp.... Some pics of yours?

Here are a couple of pictures of mine right after I purchased it (from The Prostar Thread):

Now it's sitting in the garage waiting for summer to arrive!

I plan on doing a write-up with some pictures of the preventative maintenance I've done along the way to both the boat and the trailer.

Congrats on the purchase, looks like a very nice 89. It reminded me of #1's boat too. I don't know or care what you paid, but anything under $10K is a good deal IMO for a pristine 89.

Nice boat! Kinda partial to that year :)
Looks really clean & well taken care of, worth the price premium IMHO so you don't have to spend countless hours or $$$ getting it to look that way. Which is what I need to do with mine, when I can find the time, cause i don't have the $...

Yea I looked for a long long time to try and find something in this kind of condition and everyhting I looked at was junk. This is near perfect in every aspect... Minimal defects in gel coat, excellent gloss and perfect interior....I love it... I went to look at it and tried to be as negative as possible to make sure I would not make a mistake... Then the further I drove the more Giddy I got... Like a school girl... Now that its home and my search is over SUPER EXCITED for spring.

Thanks for all the compliments... Ensures what I knew, that my search was worth it

Clean beast - how many hours?
Looks like a great find for sure. Enjoy, even though we all know how hard that is knowing it's hibernatin' for the winter and you can't wait for summer!

Honda... I go out to West Branch quite a bit as well, do most of my skiing at a boat club in souther Ohio though. Just go out to west branch to cruise.... too many people on water to be productive.

Jeffer.... its has 770 hours on her

Thanks all...
