Hey guys,
Looking at purchasing a 2005 X Star... its in denver, and has got the big block.

Look familiar to anyone?

Also, couple things... what would the shipping cost from denver to columbus, ohio be?

Any way to change out the yellow-faced gauges for white or even red?

hehe... mastcraft

Cant comment on your first questions, however if you search ebay, you should find lots of instrument gauges for Mastercraft. They usually come in full sets. These appear to be genuine MC parts too.

that looks like the lot at Tommys. I could swing by and take a look if you want, although they are pretty good people over there. My 190 was a Tommys boat back before the switched over to the darkside.

Nailed it. It's at Tommy's. Had one of my skier buddies check it out. There are some issues... But a big block star is pretty much extactly what im looking for

Check with Randy or Chris at Action Watersports in MI as they had a customer selling a orange 06 Star with the 8.1L. I would say that the 06 is probably the best year to buy.

Really? Just searched their inventory and didn't find it. Would like to stay more local, and Michigan is certainly closer than Denver.

I have talk to the owner of Tommy's on the phone a couple of times and every time I have ever dealt with them it was a good experience.

Look for a complete gauge package on ebay.

Just wanted to comment as I also own an '05 X-star.

-Make sure this one has the updated rudder (larger)
-Have the brake calipers every been replaced? If not, expect to do that real soon.
-Check the condition of the seat skins.....they all crack at the threads in 2005
-It has one wakeboard rack and one ski rack......just sayin'

Yellow guages should not be hard to swap out....personally I'd consider Stargazer first if you want to improve things.

Big block is always nice for running extra ballast. I hear they use gas pretty well and they burn some oil. I like my MCX.

Just my $.02

Mine had the same, the ski rack is just extensions that relocate the rack farther apart. They come off with a couple of screws and then you can relocate the rack back to the wakeboard (original) position.

Brooks, if you aren't going to use the extensions. I will take them off of your hands. I'm in Portland. Let me know.

I thought that by '05 the skin issue was resolved? I thought it was 01 - 03 ish.

I am getting a 2008 40th X-Star in today for consignment. No issues and perfect inside and out, 6.0 though. I think it has about 100 hrs.

6.0 is a much better choice IMHO. An X-star owner in PA went from a 8.1 star to a 6.0 star and actually liked it better.

Meh, pretty sure they fixed the vinyl issue in 05, one of my buddies has a 04 star with a ton of cracks, my 05 vinyl is almost mint. Not opposed to the 6l engine, but I have heard its a hog on gas. Shot me some info on that 40th tho.

I will get specs and pics up next week. I met with the owner yesterday and the boat is now in our showroom, it looks as clean as all of the new 2012's sitting next to it.

That's what I remember. I bought an 05 197 in 07 and it was a hot topic at the time. I didn't keep it long enough to find out.

Check out U-ship. Its the best deal going if your ship dates are flexible.
Its kinda like ebay of the shipping community. Post up what you want shipped, from wherever to wherever, and shippers start bidding on it.
I had a 22' Mastercraft shipped from Kentucky to Florida for 325.00

My 06 had perfect vinyl.

The 6.2 L engine in my current other brand boat seems to use just as much gas as the 8.1 did in my X45. But the 8.1 had an even better hole shot and seemed like it had no limit to how much ballast I could put in it.

Real world testing in two '08 X45's says that the 6.0L uses more fuel that the 8.1L under nearly identical usage. Just sayin.:D

So, I'm headed to Denver to take a look at her.

Few things I really dont like about the boat:
Looks like the vinyl is in just ok shape... Little concerned that my 05 has 2x the number of hours and better vinyl.
Really don't like the switches from 05... Would want to replace them with the billet aluminum switch panels from 06+.
Really don't like the yellow gauges from 05, want to swap those out as well.
Don't like the location.
Don't like how the fuel pump has never been changed.

However, everything I listed was cosmetic (except the fuel pump, no getting around that)
What I do like is the engine... I realllyyyy like the engine.

Snowing and cold here this weekend.....hopefully it will warm up for you!

Give you an FYI.....Alan's boat shop (MC) is only about 10 minutes away from Tommy's so it's probably worth your time to look at the X-star if that's something you might consider. Pretty easy to get to.

Tommy's is a little more of a "congested" lot feeling vs. S&W's.

Good luck and safe travels!

actually changed plans to look at a boat at the factory... so i wont be able to get out there. Brian from tommy's called and said all the lakes are frozen solid, and i definitely wasnt going to buy this boat without a lake test. talking to the PO made me nervous...

Anyway... anyone want some pics of the factory? perhaps sneak some photos of that super-top-secret boat they're working on that a little birdy told me about? (jk)
