Interesting, been hearing the questions for so long. Can 't wait to see what they come out with.

And 2013 production begins in just over 8 months. There's gotta be some prototype pics around. Stop holding out Scoot.

I just called MC, they said they developed shorter ropes. They felt pressure to do something since all their time and energy has been developing bigger wakes for us X-holes! :D

I heard it's gonna work on a proprietary hydrofoil hull developed by NASA. The project is top secret, testing is being conducted on an underground lake to keep it out of sight of Russian Satellites.

In lieu of this Malibu is looking at making their wedges bigger.

This shorter ropes idea seems like a winner! :)

I was thinking affordable fuel injected bare bones slalom boat until I saw "what the X-star has done for wake boarding."

Daring to dream. :)

Couldn't you just order a Prostar 190 with no tower, no stereo, no heater, no shower, and a glass platform (has to weigh a bit less than the heavy teak)? is that as bare bones as it gets? Not sure, that's why I'm asking...

Not sure about the 190 but every MC fiberglass platform I have ever lifted has been HEAVY!

heavier then the teak version?

IIRC, yes. Mostly on wakeboats, tho. No experience with the 190.

I like the idea of mastercraft quality at an afforable price....hmmmm...maybe some cool electronically iluminated analog guages...retractable tow rope...mechanal...(crank)...hopefully not a hybrid or electric...

Since it's a 190, you would have to special order it. That's not helping on price. Not sure what the smallest Ilmor engine is.

So what does a bare bones boat like that cost? $50K?

MSRP is 52K for a current bare bones prostar

I remember when I boat my 88 Platinum Prostar, the sticker was a mere $16,800.00!:(
And the 87 Prostar I bought NEW, I paid $14,200.00 !

From some random website.....

$16,800.00 in 1988 had the same buying power as $31,908.21 in 2011.

Annual inflation over this period was 2.83%.

Plus another 3 to 5 years before used ones are available at a price that me and the general population can afford.

I think the teak and glass platforms are the same weight, that's what I've heard anyway, they are different dimensions, i.e. same weight.

I have both fiberglass and teak platforms for my boat. I can attest to the fact that the fiberglass is double, the weight of the teak. I am probably even a little conservative and may be leaning towards it being close to triple the weight.

I can easily take my teak platform on and off. The fiberglass requires two people.

I actually even asked the dealer if it was waterlogged because it was so heavy and they said it was the way they all were.

I know of a one year old promo CC 200 going for $38K in pristine condition earlier this year. But I think what you saw is more of the norm. CC isn't offering a cost-effective new or one year young option either by any means, the above example notwithstanding.

The true budget boat is a used boat. Fortunately, there are a slew of MC and CCs out there that can be had for under 20K that perform wonderfully and can satisfy most people's slalom needs. If either of these companies comes out with a $25K base option slalom boat, our used boats' values will take a bit of a hit.

Doesn't sound like a stripped down ski boat. Sounds expensive.

That's an interesting observation I never considered. It's crazy when you think about it that the Prostar I bought new 16 years ago is still worth half of what I paid for it.

I think that would be a HUGE hit, why would anyone buy your old boat when they can buy a new one for 10K more and get a modern ride. It kind of like the tractor business right now. I have a 3 year old Kubota and I was thinking of upgrading to a larger tractor. The prices for a new tractor a quite low right now and they have 0% financing. I would have to drop the price on my tractor considerbly in order to get it sold right now. Everyone is buying a new tractor since the deals are so good and the financing is free.

I'm pumped, I can't wait to see the next ProStar. I love my 197 but it's an old design. Time to freshen it up and set the skiing world on fire again and compete with the 200, TXi and Carbon Pro.

I tried Squeezing Greg Badal for some extra information and he was tight lipped about it still. Sounds like it might be awhile before any details get released. Damn!

That's why I don't understand why those of us with boats want prices on new boats to drop. Doesn't amke any sense from my perspective.

By the same logic, I don't want Mastercraft to come out with a new improved ski boat either! ;)

If someone wants to go inexpensive they always will... I see tons of people using Tahoe boats for slalom and wakeboard... unless your competing you really don't need much more. My buddy has a 21 foot rinker cuddy festiva...at wakeboard speeds throws a huge wake without any ballast...at slalom speeds not much more wake then x-star hull....and their are inexpensive compared to MC's of course the quality is not the same but it floats and is realiable...same for the tahoe's going for 30K new...but I still my MC....

No no Shep. The increased retail cost of the boat will make your more attractive on the used market for those of us that can't afford new.
