Hurt Knee Wakeboarding!
I am so depressed! I hurt my knee on my wakeboard. I came down wrong and something snapped in my knee. I went to the dr. but I can't get an MRI until next week and then I see an ortho dr. the week after.
Does anyone know if you have a torn ACL can you put weight on it? I can put most of my weight on it and most of the swelling is on the left side of my knee (it's my left leg). They fitted me with a brace so I can't move it and it doesn't really hurt anymore. Happened on 6/10. It would be nice to hear from anyone who has had similar problems. The dr. I went to didn't really know anything. I had to get a referral. That is why I won't know anything for two weeks! Thanks, Pam |

Sorry to hear about the injury... Tex should be around here somewhere he has plenty of real world (unfortunate) experience with all this..

You can put weight on an injured ACL but it may feel like your leg is weak or may "give out." In fact some people never get their ACL's repaired.
FWIW, I think Bode Miller competed (Men's Giant Slalom) with torn ACL's in both knees, but he is a bit strange so I wouldn't do what Bode does! ![]() http://www.intelihealth.com/IH/ihtIH...339/25425.html

I'm not sure, but I've heard the knee will feel "loose", especially when moving the knee from side to side, when the ACL is severed.
The "snapped" part doesn't sound good, but you never know so don't assume anything. Also, you don't have much swelling so that is a positive sign.

Tore my ACL a couple of years ago playing B-ball, twisted heard a POP and went downlike a sack of potatoes, I laid on the ground writhing in pain for about a minute, it was very tender to walk on but after a few days it was OK. Complete tear. Getting it done this Nov. 'cause once in a while it will twist and feels like it will almost give out, little bit of pain also.
Sounds like you tore the outside ligaments, should be able to tell if you can move it more than normal side to side. It kills to tear your ACL (there is a vein that runs through the middle), the outside ligaments hurt, but not as much. Sorry to hear, got a brace also and can ski, board etc. but I just want it done. All the best.

No official experience, just wanted to say I'm sorry to hear about your injury. My sister tore her ACL skiing, now has had kevlar in her leg for 10 years and going strong.
I hope yours is not bad! |

8 weeks ago, I crashed hard on my wakeboard... My left knee, (interior) was very sore... But, I could put weight on it, and walking fine in about a week... But, it hurt for 6 weeks.... And sort-of still does... Sometimes, I would turn on it, and it kills me.... And swimming hurt... If I'd sit on the platform, and move my leg side to side, I can still feel some pain... Gotten better now... I was told, that if you can rub your knee fairly hard with not too much pain, then its a strain, or partical tear.... I think mine was a "over stretch"... But hurts just the same... I was able to rub the side of my knee the night I came home...
People that I have spoken with that had a full tear, told me they would not touch thier knee due to the pain.... And I will swell up big.... And possibly show a bruse... I had a small one, but it fadded after a few days.... Sorry to hear about your injury, and I hope it is not serious.... JOE

had mine repaired once and replaced once. all playing hockey.
yes you can put weight on it, bending a full range of motion will probably hurt the most. one tip, get that damn motion restriction brace off and move your knee as much as you can. locking it in place is old school medical advice and is bad. your quad muscles suffer from atrophy faster than any other in your body. after a week of not moving it you will lose a ton of strength. and strong legs are what will support your knee, especially if missing your ACL. dont go to the ER or your primary care doc. see a specialist and make sure he deals with these injuries on a regular basis with good results. my doc did the surgery and i was back on the ice for practice in 5 months.
