Houseboat Explosion Lake Powell

Just saw this come across Yahoo. Evidently it happened while trying to start the generator. 1 was killed 4 injured. There were 25 on boat at time.

How does that happen? Not using the blower, or not using blower long enough? Had to be a fuel leak somewhere, right? We're house boating next week and have been renting boats for over 20 years. The last 10 years or so we've had boats with generators below the stern decking. I've always worried more about Co2 in the rear cubbies than I have about the thing sparking a fire or explosion. Wonder if it somehow ignited the fuel station off the back of the boat. Sad for sure.

AAramark does such a piss poor job of educating 1st time house boaters, it was only a matter of time before something like this happened. Sad I agree, and it would not surprise me if Aaramark was held accountable.

I may have misunderstood, but I heard it was NOT a rental. That was on one of the news video snipets.

Well then I stand corrected (thanks). Either way a sad and unfortunate incident.

As a houseboat owner I have come across many people that store a spare propane tank in the hull. I think there are a great many people that are just misinformed. Not saying this is the cause , just sayin. I myself had a battery explode trying to start one of my motors once, good lesson learned on why we use battery boxes. Always use your blower!!

I think that's a two way street. I've overheard many renters rushing the orientation - "Listen, I drive a __________, I think I can handle this floating RV. Besides, my crew is getting restless. Can we just get out of here, please? Do you know what this thing is costing me?"

Just two canyons north of Halls/Bullfrog. Not far at all - unless you mean from Antelope or Wahweap.
