I can not find the thread that explains the differences in S&S year by year from the start to 1985. Is it gone or where should I look?
I'm looking to compare an 84 to an 85 Thanks

84/85
I think the differences are minor. If I recall correctly, MC went from an aluminum fuel tank to plastic in '85 and at some point they discontinued the lag bolts connecting the platform brackets, but that may not have been until '86 or later. You may find this thread interesting:

My 84 has an aluminum tank with filler on drivers side. My 85 has a plastic tank. Filler on the passenger side. Both use bolts to hold platform on. The speedo equalizers are on the sides by the tank and are accessible without pulling tank. The 84 are behind tank. Interior and dash are identical.

Tph, you may have the plastic tank. My 83 had the filler on the drivers side like my 84, both had aluminum tanks. I assume my equalizers are behind the tank because I can't see them. I need to repair them because both speedos don't work, I just need to pull tank and make sure there behind it. Maybe move them to the sides.

Having compared an 84 side by side with my 85 once, I believe the only difference that was readily visible was the color of the needles on the speedometers.

My 83 has driver side fill, and aluminum tank.
