IL Vacation Rentals?

Has anyone found a great waterskiing lake with vacation rentals in central to southern Illinois? I've wasted a lot of time looking up lakes on a map then searching on the internet with no luck. Recommendations?

What is crystal lake not smooth enough for you?

Don't like foiling around the public beach?

Crystal Lake is normally smooth enough, but the water is so low the bottom is showing.

Looking for a weeks rental on the waterfront in August.

VRBO

I don't know if they have what you're looking for, but they're always the first place I look.

bottom showing is a bad thing???

I personally like seeing the bottom of the lake, means its clean.

And yes I've been to crystal lake, its name is misleading.

The lake used to be crystal clear, the famous Dole fruit family used to harvest crystal clear ice out of the lake in the winter months, store it in ice houses and ship it to Chicago in the summers. But now algea and seaweed has creeped in. There is still 1/4 of the lake that you can see 8 feet down.

We've gone to St. Germain over labor day weekend for years, but depending on the wind and tempature sometimes its too cold for the little ones (even with wet suits). That's why we're trying to head south, but not all the way down to Tablerock/Cumberland. But based on the replies to this thread, sounds like we may have to travel further than planned.

Have you thought about Rend lake near Mt. Vernon IL. or Lake Shelbyville is nice as well. Not really sure about accomodations on either.
