More propeller advice...

Ok, I took the boat out for the first time with my new prop and have some questions.

I had a 3 blade, 14x18 prop. I was running about 24 mph @ 2800 RPM. With the 4 blade, 13x12.5 prop, I'm now running about 24mph @ 3800. Is this ok???

I thought it may have a been a bit too high of a change. No rattling or off-balance feel, just felt like it might have been running too hard. Engine wasn't overheating at all...steady 170-175 degrees.

Is 3800 RPM ok, for running at 24 mph...Keep in mind this is for wakeboarding. I don't know if I'll ever be using it for water skiing.

My advise would be to get that prop off your boat.
While 24mph @ 3800 may be ok, it will be very easy to over rev he engine.

My guess if you opened it up, the engine would self destruct.

Exclamation Wrong prop?

Skiufool
14 x 18 is a Powerslot tranny prop and fit a 1 1/8 inch shaft.
13 x 12.5 is a regular tranny prop and fit a 1 inch shaft.
3800 rpm for 24 mph is NOT GOOD at all and i think you bought the wrong prop for your boat.
Can you tell us what boat, engine, transmission and shaft diameter that you have?
Some thing is definitely wrong here...

Its an '84 SS with a 1 1/8" shaft size. Still trying to figure out if its a Powerslot or regular transmission. I think its probably a Powerslot transmission because of the shaft size. Anyway, the propeller is a 13x12.5 with a 1 1/8" shaft size.

So, since it is most likely a powerslot transmission, I should be using a higher pitched propeller then correct?

Thanks for your help guys...I didn't think it was running the way it should be!

yes, you should have a MUCH higher pitch. 17.5-18.8 is the range i've seen.

if you have a 1-1/8 shaft, it's definatly a powerslot.

I read recently that 85-90% of the 80's boats were powerslots. does that seem to be accurate?
