SUV Tow rigs

I would think a small enclosed trailer would do well behind a van. This is an interesting option for a tow vehicle that I hadnt considered. Too bad its out of my price range.

Anyone using a Toyota 4runner gen5? It towed my x2 great, but with a 5000 capacity my new boat, nxt22 is going to be a few hundred pounds over the limit.

Thanks!

What year did the gen5 4Runner start? We just traded a 2 wheel drive '12 4Runner in that we towed our '04 X2 w/tandem trailer with and it did pretty good on our trips of about 100 miles thru the hill country of central TX.

I have a 2018 4Runner that pulls our 03 X series (205V) around town. It does OK taking it from our club to the ramp, but I would not use it to haul long distances regularly.

I've been off the radar most of this year so I didn't get a chance to update this. I got a nice offer on my Touareg, they gave me 10k more than I paid for it so I got to use it for 2+ years and made some money. Replaced it with a nice used 2011 BMW X5 diesel. I was kinda hooked on the diesels so I found this one for a stupid price and couldn't resist.

It's no Touareg, I miss that thing so bad, but the X5 can pull the Prostar pretty well. My trailer had the brakes removed by the previous owner and with the Touareg I never even knew it was back there, the X5 definitely lets me know it's there. The ramp is only 3 miles from my house so we can keep things as it is for now.

I still look for used diesel Touaregs in my spare web-sufing time.

Touareg pull an XT21? Dry with trailer, I believe it is 6200 lbs. Also considering the Jeep Grand Cherokee Eco Diesel. Anyone have any experience with these?

Even the 20' or 21' boats are over 5000 lbs with a tandem trailer. I would NOT recommend a tow limit of 5000lbs for that. Will it tow it? yah, maybe, but i wouldn't risk the dangers and/or ruining my vehicle. These boats are big, heavy and proper towing is usually maxing out at 60% of tow capacity. That means you should have capacity to tow 8000lbs but max around 6500... you have to take into account everything you pack in your vehicle and touque ratings.

you start talking 22' boats and you need the right vehicle.. But a truck or SUV with a tow rating of 8k.
