Rear View Mirror / New or Re-Mirror 86 S&S

Putting the final details on my 86 S&S. Wanted to keep this "stock". Thoughts on putting a new mirror in the boat or getting the mirror glass redone. Anyone been down this road?
Should have new carpet and new skins completed by this weekend. Will post pictures. Will be like new! Just need some water in the lakes here in Texas.

Not sure what convex mirrored glass would run you. Have you tried Binnswanger? Is it a CIPA comp? If so, they're easy to come by.

To me, this forum is about love of inboard boats. It is about the sharing of information and, on a good day, some humor. It is not about post count, brand of boat, or any other superfluous labels that lend themselves to a false sense of superiority. Please, respect one another, try to pass on accurate information, and keep your eye on the ball.

Just order the mirror http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?number=M1C
and reuse your bracket.

Doug, It's the old flat mirror that is mounted on the dash.

I don't think this mirror will work on an '86, unless you install a 3/4 inch thick round bar between the dash brackets. And if you do that, The mirror will sit at a different height off the dash. It may hit the windshield. Your best bet may be to replace the glass in the original mirror.

Replace your origional to keep it looking nice. But also order a cipa comp mirror w/ the window mount. Believe me on this, mounted above the window will give you a ton of behind the boat view, you'll see your skiers fall too... lots of fun, plus easily removed for tarping, trailering, or storage.

I believe the original mirror is just a big rig truck mirror.I read somewhere that it is still avalable at some of the big truck supply houses.

Then you should be able to just buy a piece of glass the right thickness and put it in the frame, right?
