Draining the gas tank?

I recently purchased a 89 ProStar 190 but it has been sitting unmaintained for 2 years. It has a half of a tank of gas that I need to drain. Any suggestions?

Just for the record I have offically banned the previous owner from every owning another Mastercraft for abusing this one!

Thanks

Flush the fuel line(s) when you drain the tank. You'll also have some varnish in the tank so it may be easiest to drain it, use a good fuel system cleaner(like carb cleaner in a 1-5 gallon can) and then reinstall it. You may also need to have some work on the carb, too. If you want to speed things up, get yourself a cheap electric fuel pump (volume, not pressure) and attach a couple of wires with alligator clips so you can just clip it onto the battery, with an inline fuse, of course. Then pump it into whatever gas cans you have, unless you can go to a place that services gas tanks, since they need to dispose of bad gas on a regular basis, anyway. If you have a place near you that takes in hazardous waste(like Waste Management), even better since it may be free to drop off.

Its should probably be drained.. If it was kept inside, Open the gas tank filler.. Does it smell like gas or varnish?? If varnish, drain it , change all fuel filters and be prepared to clean out your carb....

If it smells OK, dump in some stabil and some gas dry, and give it a go.. I would try to burn all the gas out that I could and put some fresh SUPER with stabil in it.. Then change your fuel filters.....

Just my opinion......

Unfortunately it smells like varnish! Should I replace the fuel lines or can I just put fresh gas in the tank (with a cleaner) and run the fuel pump into a gas can until the fresh fuel makes it to the carburator?

I guess the next big question is should I try a cleaner and hope for the best, have the carb rebuilt or buy a new one?

I plan on replacing the impeller and lubricationg the cylinders before I turn the motor over. Anything else thats a must?
