It is a scam. I tried to buy it a year ago.

Just curious! How does this scam work? I am assuming that whatever buyer was interested in this boat would want to put a set of eyes on it first..... Or, is the scam created just to snare someone who would be willing to send a down payment?

Usually the seller claims the boat is in storage somewhere else. They say they are out of the country for a wedding or business or something. They offer you free shipping and try to make you feel better about it because they offer to use an escrow company. Then they send you links to a fake escrow service.

Wow! It's hard to think anyone would send money to anyone or any escrow service without first putting a set of eyes on the product for sale...

They promise you can get your money back if for any reason you don't like the boat, and offer a price way below book. When I was shopping last summer I stumbled onto the scam, in my case 'she' claimed she was military ready to go back overseas. Took several emails to unveil that boat not local, boat in storage, escrow to buy, and full refund if not happy. Now I just keep flagging the scammy posts on CL in my area. Most are easy to tell as they have few knowledgable facts about boat, and they photoshop registration number out of single picture they hijacked from somewhere.

First time I ran into this I was looking for a jet ski for the kids. Saw the boat advertised while I was out of town working. The poster told me the boat wasn't stored locally but was located in a town only 20 miles from where I lived. When I replied that I lived near by and could go see the boat the next day the excuses started flying why I wouldn't be able to go see the boat in person. That's when the party broke up and the lights came on that this was a scam.

Same old story about an escrow account, being delivered to my door and a safe transaction for all. Bottom line if you can't see it in person don't buy it.
