Chirping Transmission

That is the best way to describe the sound I have been hearing lately as you transition the throttle from engagement to neutral position. It is a short "chirp", then normal. While in forward or reverse the tranmission/driveline sounds normal. I check fluids weekly. No change in the color or amount all season. Any ideas?

I don't know what kind/type of fluid in the transmission at the moment because this is a new to me boat this season. This is on my 95 190 powerslot.

Thanks,
Eric

I changed fluid and noticed no change. I am confused. Anyone else ever experience this? Maybe this is a normal sound.

Could be the damper plate starting to make noise...

Maybe, but wouldn't that make a sound or noise under way (gear-F or R)?

usually makes noise when engaging into gear and then stops - but that's what i have experienced while in others boats.

Mine made a noise like you describe last year and it was the damper plate.

Ok, if it is the damper plate, how critical is it to change (time wise) this season? Is it one of those parts that needs to be changed right away? I probably will only be running my boat for 4 to 5 hours for the rest of season.

It's just starting to go... It will sound like rocks banging around when it's closer to change

Thanks Mike. Is it hard to change?
