salt water question

Im looking at a 2008 x1 on onlyinboards. It has low hours, but obviously its been in salt water. The motor was replaced due to the cooling inlet hose coming off the engine. The new engine only has about 80 hours on it. The owner is a very nice guy and was upfront about what happened. He says after every use he flushed the engine with fresh water. With just 88 hours on the engine do I have anything to worry about long term from it being in salt water?

Its all about the benjamins.

For a good chunk off the cost if you intend on running it awhile you might be OK with owning it.

Honestly - you might not have as many buyers "questioning" if the boats be in salt unless you are upfront about it (being in the midwest)

A quick answer to your question no, at 80 hours in salt you have nothing to sorry about. I'd be more concerned about the engine replacement. Who did the repair, does he have receipts, was the correct engine replaced etc. Like 88 PS190 said its all about the money. Most NADA figures take 10 to 15% off retail for salt water use. How far is the boat fom you?

35k for an 08 with 88 hours on the engine is a pretty good price. I just worry about maintenance issues that might offset the money saved up front.

He sent me a copy of the receipt from the dealer who replaced it. 11,500 dollars for a replacement engine. It was all done under an insurance claim.

You'll be OK. Not much can happen to a motor run in salt for 88 hours, especially if he flushed religiously.

Sounds like a stand up guy so far. Are you planning on buying the boat without actually seeing it? If so you might want to consider an independent marine survey or ask on here if a TT member is close by to take a look. Nothing better then another set of eyes.
