Interior home painting

After watching my parents home sit empty for over a year now, we've decided it's time to get ready to put it on the market. Just beginning the process and had a painter come in to give us an estimate and I don't know if he's high, low or about right. The home is roughly 2,500 sq ft plus an attached garage that adds around 400 more feet. The pricing came in at $5,100 for all rooms, minus two, and includes about half of the ceilings.

Opinions on the pricing?

I recently patched holes and re-painted 2 rooms in my GFs house, and have 1 more to go.

So far the project has cost roughly $300 for paint and painting supplies.

But I am exhausted after a night of painting.

My first thought is that it sounds about right... I had my house done when I first moved in, about the same size. The basement needed a lot of work since it was used as a day home for about 8 little runts, and it was badly banged up. I also used 3 colors, which made the price go up, but I ended up paying around $6500 including all the repair work and patching. They also patched the holes I made when I removed the white-wire shelving in the closets...

Of course, that's all in Calgary, where even getting a guy to come and give you a quote seems near impossible...

I've never paid for painting, but me and my boys do 99% of the maintenance around there already and my sister will get half of the sale price. I'm just not willing to do all of the work and not get anything for it.

I also forgot to add that he will be painting the kitchen cabinets as well.

And...my wife and sister picked out no less that 5 colors.

Understand completely. In our case, we're prepping the house to sell. So one color, make it look nice... After it sells we're negotiating building in a ski lake community.

Price seems reasonable if they are a legit, professional crew. I paid about that last year for my 2400 square foot house, with garage. I agree with painting all walls one color with a white or off white trim. (Ben Moore Acadia white is what we used.)

will the fresh paint increase the value of the house by the cost of painting? I would also look at leaving the pricing the same but give the prospective new owner a painting allowance the same as the cost quoted. The new buyer might have different tastes in color ... just a thought
