Locking Glove Box w/ No Key

My '96 205 has a locking glove box latch, but I never had the key. It has been one of those things that has bugged me. It's not that I have ever really needed to lock it, it's just the fact of not having the key to a lock on my boat. If the latch had a plain button I would have been fine with it.

A new latch (with key) has been on my list of things to buy for years. It wasn't high on the list, since I don't need it and it's $40+, but I have almost ordered one several times. In fact I had it in an order, but when the part I really wanted/needed wasn't available I cancelled the order.

I was looking for a cheap source for the latch recently since it is no longer available from Midwest MasterCraft and found that it was made by Southco. On the Southco site it showed that the latches all had the same key CH751. It is a very common key for tool boxes, RV storage boxes, etc. I found plenty of them on eBay and bought a set for $4.06 delivered. They came in the mail today and they work in the lock.

Sorry to be so long winded, but if you need a key for your glove box and the latch looks like the one below, the solution is CH751.

Those ch keys are also used on camper shell doors. Check your local Truck cap dealer, you might find one there.

I know on my 2002 it didn't matter what key you used. You could unlock it with a flat blade screw driver if you wanted but good find
