Which tower for my 85 S&S?

Haha, the title got you guys in here.

Anyways, I have hardly had any time to take out the S&S since I got her a few weeks ago, and i have a few questions.

-Carb tuning, she has issues hot starting without me pumping the throttle in neutral. What needs to be adjusted? also idles decently high, enough to make me look like an ignorant a** in the no wake zones.

-Bimini, who makes one that mounts to the windshield frame? would prefer to not drill more than I have to. Better yet, any pylon mounted ones? thought I saw one a while back but can't seem to find it again.

-trailer paint- My trailer has a few surface rusting issues, so Im gonna sand blast it and re paint. any ideas where to get the color? Ill post pics of the boat in a second.

-The gauges are a little faded, any way to get new OEM ones? refurbished ones? do it myself without effing them up?

-and last but not least, gas assist shocks for the observers seat flip up. anyone done this? drives me NUTSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I love ol' glory, she's an attention grabber for sure! Ill update this thread as i start to make her as close to factory perfect as possible.

I see what you did there... lol
Answers:
trailer paint- I'd suggest something neutral- maybe a slate grey or gunmetal. Something along those lines, I'm hoping to paint my trailer this summer or next, and I'm thinking about going with a color that won't require a matching color on the hull.

bimini- the only bimini I know of that attaches to the pylon is this one, but it's been discontinued. I do have access to a welder and a CNC, I can get stainless tubing at a discount and I'm seriously tempted to try to replicate the design. Besides that particular unit, I haven't seen anything similar.

I found a thread that cloaked had linked to the people that refurbish them, I just don't want to be out a long time with no gauges! I might just wait until the off season and do it.

So weird thing happened today.

backed the boat into the water. since i bought it, it won't fire up without pumping the throttle.

but today it wouldn't fire up even with pumping the throttle. It finally fired, but idled crazy rough, then would die when given throttle. finally it stopped idling rough and it was back to normal... *** is going on? Can i just put an ilmor 5.7 in this thing? lol

You have to pump the throttle once to give it gas to start. All carb vehicles work that way. If you have to pump it too much, you may have a bad accelerator pump.

Now it sounds like you are running too rich. Did it backfire through the carb? if so, it may have blown the power valve. Or the power valve just failed on it's own. You may be in the market for a carb rebuild. If so, give me a shout.
