Orlando ski lakes

hey everyone. I just wanted to find out what lakes around the orlando area have slalom courses and what lakes are good to just go cruise around. I am still a college student and my dad and mom are moving to orlando for my dads job. His office is right by the cable park down there. I own a 85 mastercraft S&S and i think his company is going to ship it down there for me to use over my spring break then i am going to be towing it back to Ohio. O yeah also what is the weather like down there in early march?

to be exact i think that are going to be moving to the Clermont area. But if you could let me know about any lakes in the area that would be great.
thanks for the help.

T Scott would be one of your best contacts. Their are a ton of lakes. However, the majority of them are private lakes. So, unless you know someone, good luck getting on.

There are many lakes in and around Orlando, some private many public.

Clemont Chain of lakes, Butler Chain, Conway Chain, Winter Haven Chain,Lake Ivanhoe, Lake Underhill (PWC mostly), St. Johns River (gators), Harris Chain (Leesburg) oh yeah Lake Jessup(LOTS of gators).

Seriously, plenty of skiable water here in Central Florida. You won't have any problem discovering them. Good Luck to your parents and there move.

35th has mentioned all the good ones. I have a slalom course on my lake, Lake Hiawassee (private lake) that you are welcomed to use from time to time. It is a great lake with lots of Big name skiers that live on it, Todd Ristorcelli (Waterski Mag editor), Parks Bonifay, Rusty, Danny Harf, etc. Lots of fun to watch these guys! As far as cruising...Clermont chain and Butler chain are probably the best. The Butler Chain is nice as far as scenery. (Ie: Multi Million dollar homes everywhere and you even see celebrities from time to time.) I have seen Shaq, Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Darrel Armstrong and several others on that chain over the years. There is also an island on Lake Butler that is fun to hang out on. It is called Bird Island. On a nice weekend, it is not uncommon to see 50-100 boats along the shore. Weather in March will be pretty nice. Typically mid 60's and water temp in the mid 60's as well. Look me up when you get here, I'll be happy to give you a pull.

Tom

Congrats on the Southern Move!

Hey there!

You are going to be so happy moving to Florida form the North, because the water will feel warm to you all the time. I moved down here a year ago from Minnesota and I love it!!! I usually ride on Lake Thonotosassa over in Hillsborough County but I have ridden on the chain of lakes in Winter Haven......a really good time!!

There is a pretty cool little ski course near Tampa, FL called McCormick's Ski School.....nothing great, but it get's the job done!!!

Let me know if you need anything!!

USA WaterSki just opened their lake in Polk City. It's right of I4, not sure of the exit number, but I think it's the next one after the Lake Alfred/Winter Haven exit. A friend of mine is the lake manager there. If the pricing falls in any where near what he was telling me, it's the deal of the century. Here is a letter he posted on skify.com

Quote:
Central Florida's Newest Competition Water Ski Lake Is Now Open

This letter is to let all water sports enthusiasts know that the new record-capability water ski lake at USA Water Ski headquarters in Polk City, Fla., is now available for use.

The all-event water ski lake has to support itself financially, so please come out and give it a try. Your Active USA Water ski membership entitles you to one free set.

The lake has already hosted several events for the three-event, barefoot and disabled sport disciplines, and U.S. water ski athlete Freddy Krueger recently set a pending world jumping record on the lake. Don't miss out on this exciting opportunity to not only enjoy a set on the newest competition water ski lake in central Florida, but to also visit USA Water Ski headquarters and the American Water Ski Educational Foundation's Water Ski Hall of Fame & Museum.

Contact Lake Manager Roger Skalko for pricing and scheduling inquiries. You must be an active member of USA Water Ski to utilize the lake.

Sincerely,
Roger Skalko
Lake Manager

I'll be there skiing with him between Christmas and New Years and then again in April!

Does anyone know where the public launch for the Butler Chain of lakes is?

Lake Conway is a nice lake to use also - It's over by OIA. We go there often.

Butler Ramp.........Where are you coming from? I maybe wrong, I drive and don't pay attn to roads.......535 and Chase Road sounds about right though...Just mapquest it for you. 535 to Chase RD go east, follow for about 1 mile road will turn north, go about 3/4 mile, there will be a park on the east....If you go over a small bridge and pass IsleWorth, you've gone to far. Be careful with Windermere police if coming in off Apopka Vineland.....Not friendly.....I know. Forget the name....$5.00 to park, ramp closes at dusk, about 50 spots avail. If full, you wait until someone leaves.
