Alluminum help

Ok guys, so I've always wanted one of those dance aluminum adjustable hitches just because they are B.A. My friend hit a deer so I traded him my bumper I built for this aluminum hitch. It needs cleaned up good as you'll be able to tell. What's the easiest way to go about it? I'm going to clean up the rough edges where it's hit a few things. Should I just polish it or is there a way to clean it without having it polished?

clean it with soap and water, scrape off the crap..buff it out with a buffing wheel and metal polish / rouge

Then ask your friend why did he let this get to this point..easy to keep up!

Think a buffing wheel will be enough? It had a few rough edges where it appeared it had been hit with a hammer and I ground then off. I've got access to polishing wheels just not sure if I want to put 10 hours in it cleaning it up. I've tried cleaning it with brake clean here at work and it barely touched some of the stuff on it.

sit it in a parts washer for awhile and then media blast.

Problem with the media blast finish is that it dirties very easily.

By parts washer what do you mean? Like one of the ones to clean transmissions? Or like the ones where you clean grease and etc off stuff? I thought about getting some aluminum cleaner acid stuff and seeing what that did

I would recommend a spray bottle of NAPA Aluminum Wheel Brightener. I can't remember which household chemical it is similar to, (The Works bath tub cleaner, CLR, Lime Away). The NAPA version is about $10/bottle. Same product that is used make aluminum trailers etc. look like new.

Follow the directions and rinse thoroughly.

Good luck,

Tim

Hit it with a wire wheel a little bit, it cleans it up just hard on it. I'm going to get some alluminum cleaner and give that a shot before much else. I'm going to have to repolish if completely.
