Another 6.5 speaker question

So I've read countless threads on 6.5 speakers till I'm blue. I need 2 sets of cabin speakers to replace my cheap OEM speakers. I was sold on the Wetsounds XS-650s but then found the Polk MM651UM which spec wise looked about the same when compared side by side. I couldn't find much on the MM just the DB models. Anyone know how they sound? I couldn't find a local shop to listen to them. Their almost a hundred bucks cheaper so if their isn't much of a sound difference then I might go with the Polks. I have a ARC Audio amp that is rated at 85 RMS per channel so from my readings the Wetsounds really need 100 RMS to sound at their best.

I have little kids so I don't need the loudest speaker. Looking for something that has good low end and sounds great. Thanks

I like the sound of both speakers. And, would include these two models along with the JL Audio MX650s as the best sounding marine 6.5" coaxials available. But they all sound different.
This much I can tell you with absolutle certainty. You cannot compare specs from one brand to another brand. Every spec is unqualified and meaningless. For example, is the efficiency rating taken at 2.83V or 1 watt, at one foot or one meter, peak or weighted?
Don't get me wrong. The Polk Audio MM651UM is a good sounding speaker and has good value at the price but the specs couldn't be more bogus.
If there is any way, audition the speakers in person on good equipment with a well known music selection, or three. Sound is subjective.

And no, the XS-650 does not "have to have" 100W to sound fantastic. Your current amp @ 85W rms will do the job.

I have the Polk DB speakers, but I have a MM Polk sub. It really does sound great. If you have a Correct Craft dealer nearby, you could give the MM series a listen. Those are typically their stock speakers.

To me, this forum is about love of inboard boats. It is about the sharing of information and, on a good day, some humor. It is not about post count, brand of boat, or any other superfluous labels that lend themselves to a false sense of superiority. Please, respect one another, try to pass on accurate information, and keep your eye on the ball.
