Family vacation, I would probably rent a boat one day. I am looking at lake Hamilton, and also looked and Hot Springs village. But I think Lake Hamilton looks better. Just not sure if there is enough for us to do. We normally keep pretty busy with the kids.

Are you looking for things only boating related? If you rent a boat take the 25-30 minute drive to Lake Oauchita. It's one of the best lakes in the country and covers 40,000 acres. I grew up in Hot Springs and live 30 mins away. I personally stay away from Lake Hamilton because in the summer it's swamped. (you won't have any crowds that time of year) Just let me know some things your interested in and I can offer some suggestions.

If the water was warm enough and I was not freaked out about freezing something up on my return trip back I would take the boat. This would be just a family land vacation, we normally hit the sites, try new things and have fun. I would probably rent a boat for one day.

Warmth would also be a plus, what are your average temps mid March

Lake Ouachita is the heat but you'll want to bring your boat and then rent a houseboat
Lake Hamilton is ok, water level might be a little low until late April
If your into Mountain Biking theres some great trails north and west of Lake Ouachita
Perhaps you'll want to find some diamonds, last Oct a 14 year old girl found a 4 carat diamond and in July a 12 year old found a 5 carat diamond in Murfreesboro at Diamond Crater, some 75,000diamonds been found since the park had opened

Temps in March can vary by quite a bit. With the abnormally cold winter everyone is having who knows. In general air temps are 60-70 with water temps 50-60. Long range forecast suggest we could have a warm March with days in the 80s. Also as someone stated, Lake Hamilton is low, depending on the week you come they will begin filling it back up sometime in March. (Lake Ouachita dumps into Lake Hamilton) If you are into hiking, the mountains around lake ouachita over some great trails for bikes or walking. There are a good number of waterfalls in the area, which would be a good time of year to go see.

Just checked the fill dates and Lake Hamilton will be at full pool by 3/15, but since that water is coming off the bottom of Ouachita it will easily around 50 degrees. So chilly to say the least.

ref hot springs

I live within an hour of there near Conway, we go to Greers Ferry also another great lake. I ditto the lake hamilton issues, i stay away, water usually low and super crowded. But love hot springs area in general. Lots of sites and an off road ATV/Jeep park near by. Hot springs has an amusement park as well for the kids.
