Solid Aluminium Receiver
OK question - This was posted over on the Touareg forum. I did a google search and only came up with this same story about this receiver. I would think if they were failing, it would out there.
See pic #1 - I use the one in Pic #2 in the rise position- I have not had an issue. Thoughts ![]() |

Yikes that's not good. I was looking at one of the adjustable height one like the one in the picture. Glad I found other projects to spend that money on.

The AL adjustable units I have seen were rated to very high load levels - much beyond class 5 ratings, so I would guess there is more to this picture.

I bet this was Seth's and he had this on his flat tire/missing wheel trailer and was pulling it with a bulldozer.

That picture happened around my area of boating. The story I heard was that the hitch had been on a motorhome and that the perpetual dragging of the hitch led to its' failure.
Also, not that it matters, but the pic of the broken hitch is a Rapid Hitch by Anderson. The other picture is a hitch by Diversitech. If I had my choice to waste $300 on a hitch, I would go with Diversitech. They make some pretty slick stuff. I like the integrated lock. ![]() |

Anderson had a recall of their stowable hitches, but have not seen anything on their height adjustable (pictured above) or basic ball mounts.
Owner of the dealership next door has had an Anderson just like the one pictured for 4 years problem free. He pulls everything with it, 6k boat, 4 place enclosed snowmobile trailer, skidsteer trailer, etc. There must be more to that story of the broken one. Impact or otherwise. |
