4160 carb soak

Getting ready to start rebuild, Want to soak it to get it really clean. Last month it was showing signs of needing attention, hard starting, poor idle. I have read simple green and ultra-sonic work good, any other suggestions? Going to install power valve kit while it is apart.

None of the cleaners are as effective as they used to be. Nothing wrong with soaking it for 24 hours. Of course, be sure not to soak the throttle body. Don't want to take out the seals in there.

Take a look at #192

http://www.holley.com/data/TechServi...ded%20View.pdf

In this case, the throttle body refers to the bottom component of the carb assembly which houses the throttle shaft and blades.............hence throttle body. Not to be confused with a basic fuel injection system.

I don't believe there are seals on the butterfly shafts so soaking it is fine. I would not call that a throttle body either. When that carb was made there wasn't such a thing as TB. I don't know why people want to rename it now.

Holley calls it a throttle body. That makes it a throttle body. I could see how someone could get confused by the same word describing two similar, yet entirely different items. Class dismissed.

I will once again reference #192 in the "Exploded View - Model 4150/4160" from the Holley Technical Library, as illustrated below.

Just like the holocaust didn't happen. It's a new age so call it what you will. I think nowadays its call revisionism. CP outta get a kick out of that one.

Holley can rename it all they want. When that carb was made it was call a base plate assembly and the shafts were to control the butterflies.
