I've had both currently have lift gate. I prefer the lift gate as it eliminated the blind spot in the middle and gave me rear wiper. Both opened without any issue with my boat trailer attached.

I think the lift gate would be better for visibility. If you get into the older ones, they had a lift window and a drop tail gate. I would think that would be a pain.

Barn doors for sure!!!! At some point the roll up window in the tail gate is going to be a POS and will take forever to roll up.
I prefer the Barn Doors too on the older models (up to 91). The lift gate (with sliding rear window) get's heavy and cumbersom.

My 2004 has the redesigned lift gate (whole gate and glass) and I much prefer it over the barn doors. I think they dropped the barn doors in 2002 or 2003. I don't think I've seen them on 2004+ models.

My lift gate clears my 1994 205 with ease.

we've had all three (tailgate, barn doors, lift) and I much prefer the lift as it reduces blind spot in the middle, rear wiper and shade ... The older tailgate type was okay, but not when any type of trailer was attached plus the sketchiness of the power window involved. My wife much prefers the barn door style as it was easier for her to merely open one side to load groceries & stuff.

The lift window/drop tailgate ended in 2000 (1999 was last year of this design).

So it is settled, Can't Repeat likes the barn-doors which means all "normal" people will prefer the liftgate.

I'll throw in my preference for the lift gate. Clears the boat easily and to open the glass by itself is convenient.

Oh, no where. You just want to try and stir the pot.

Thanks for the help guys. Pretty much confirm what I was thinking that the hatch is the way to go. For some reason, many I found have the doors. I am just not fond of the split rear window.
