It's probably just being stubborn. Tap a small screwdriver between the key and the groove in the shaft a few times.

I did try that and hit it hard enough to bend the tip of a small screwdriver so it seemed like that notch wasn't made to move. I'll give it another go tonight though.

I replaced my entire helm a couple years ago, but I don't remember the order it cam apart. I have all the parts together in the man-cave. I can look at it later today and let you know.

The key comes out, I promise. I've dissected many big-T rotary helms just like yours and that is how they come apart. Really.

Figured I would post some updated pics of the project since I have been working my a** off on it the last few weeks. Trailer done, dash done, rewiring in order to switch to a fuse block instead of surface mount, done, gelcoat cleanup, done. Next up, finish up the decals and then gotta do something about the carpet!

Thanks guys. I made the dash out of acrylic and then wrapped them in 3M vinyl (the stuff they wrap cars in). Supposedly it has a 10 year exterior life but we'll see. If it doesn't last I'll just take off the vinyl and have them hydrodipped.
