Rudder is leaking - 2008 X2

Hi -

I noticed recently that the rudder is leaking on my 2008 x2. It is not just a drip, but a steady stream of water. I also noticed there is some slop/play in the rudder if I grab it and move it from underneath the boat.

I did some searching but didn't find much. Is this something as easy as replacing seals/o-rings? Would I have to purchase those through a dealer or are there other options (skidim?)

Thanks

The first thing to try (and least expensive) is to grease the heck out of the rudder port. The port should be full of grease and should seep some grease when you grease it either from the top or bottom. I've been greasing mine for the past 5 years and only this year have seen grease actually coming out of the port. This would lead me to believe that the port left the factory pretty much dry.

The second thing you can do is replace the seal on the top of the rudder box. I got mine skidim but haven't gotten around to replacing it as the leak has seemed to slow as I've filled the rudder box with grease. If I remember correctly the seal wasn't cheap but someone in TT replaced theirs and it solved their leaking problem.

rudder box over haul kit.. http://www.skidim.com/prodinfo.asp?n...ST1.00-SEALKIT

just put something under rudder when you release it from the top.. it will come down fast...
