Tires-Kumho 857

Tires on my "new to me" 353 hour '92 ProStar 205 were older than I thougt as both gave up the ghost last weekend on our 2 hr. tow to the lake. What a pain in the arse....

I've always run Marathons but the set I bought for the fishing boat earlier this year came stamped "Made is China" and sure enough the recent reviews are not good so I'm moving on. Went looking for the highest load rated R14 I could find: Kumho 204R14 load range D at aprox. 2200 lbs.

I have only a 1/2" free space at the garage door header with the tower folded so moving up to a 15" higher load rating is not an option right now.

Tires are ordered and will be here in a couple of days. Any other option I'm missing before giving these a shot?

Good tire selection. I had the Kumho 857's installed in the spring and they have performed great all summer. They barely get hot even towing at higher speeds. They are speed rated to 99 MPH. I don't recommed towing that fast BTW.
I paid extra $$ for them because I wanted the 8 ply 14" tire since the 6 ply were overloaded with my setup. My old tires would get pretty hot with normal towing speeds. Now I have peace of mind while towing without the expense of moving up to a 15" setup.

I need to replace the tires on my tandem axle trailer in the next few weeks. Where are you finding these tires, or other brands? I need 215 75 14's, at least I think thats whats on my '08 trailer. Its been almost 4 years since I replaced the worthless marathons. I have no name tires on there now from a firestone store that happened to be open on the Sunday afternoon that my original marathon blew out.

Discount Tire price matched the best web price I could find and they will add replacement warranty down to the wear bars or 10 years whichever comes 1st, seriously on a trailer!! I may have just paid for my last set of tires...... We'll see which set lives longer, the China Marathons i just bought 2 wks ago or these Kumhos.

Don't think you can go wrong with either Kumho 857 or Maxxis M8008 for trailer tires. I've got pair of Maxxis and pair of cheapo trailer radials on my tandem. Need to purchase another pair of Maxxis in the off season to replace trailer radials.

There are a number of other brands of trailer tires that will perform equally as well as Kunho and Maxxis. I have been selling Kenda, Gladiator & Akuret ST tires for years and I have not had a single tire returned for warranty.

I saw a posting on Malibu's site where an owner had a problem with his Maxxis trailer tire and it sounds like he took meticulous care of them.

Any tire can fail from a defect in manufacturing. The tread separating from that Kumho doesn't mean that the other four on his trailer are bad, but I would be tempted to replace them as well. Used trailer tires are easy to sell.

Also, I wouldn't condemn a tire manufacturer from one bad experience. Kumho and Maxxis make fine trailer tires. Perhaps over-priced, but a fine tire none-the-less.
