1992 masristar wouldn't start dead dashboard

This one has me baffled. We have a 1992 Maristar and we made it to the cove with no problem. When we tried to start the boat, the motor turned VERY slowly a coule of times, then nothing. Tried again and only a few clicks, and there was no power for the guages on the dash. No radio, no guages...nothing!!. Waited a litttle while, and the volt meter registered some juice, turned the key and the starter would click and then the dash would go dead again. I noticed that the black lead from the battery was very warm to the touch. We found someone with jumper cables and tried a few times and again, no response. Tried one last time and the boat roared to life like it should. No problems since. Would this be the start of a bad solenoid? The guy with the jumper cables told to tap the solenoid. I am just trying to figure this one out so that we are not stuck again. I really dont think it was the battery since it went from not starting and no response to no problems at all.

I'd guess either the battery, or the battery cable. Grab hold of each cable at each end, and give it a good shake - you'll be able to tell if one of the ends has corroded loose inside the jacket.

Otherwise, removed the cables from the battery and clean it up and reattach, remove the cables where they bolt to the solenoid/block, clean it up and reattach.

I removed and cleaned the terminals in the boat and they were very clean. Hasnt happened again, but i want to try to avoid it. Could a stuck solenoid pull a large amount of amps to heat the battery cable?

A bad solenoid could be the cause of high resistance, but they usually don't fail that way. Have you removed and cleaned the ground cable where it attaches to the block? That would be the first place I would look.
