1990 Prostar 190

Hello everyone. I've been researching Mastercraft Prostar 190's since late March. I really like the late 1980's early 1990's boats since it has the 351W (big time availability of parts, plus I grew up in Dearborn and my father was an Engineer with Ford for 30+ years) and the boat just has great timeless look to it.
I've pretty much read every thread in the restorations section pertaining to boats in this category. And missed a few great deals here and there (especially the boat VooDoo had on here early summer).
All that being said, I have found a boat in the DC area (a few hour drive from SC) but definitely doable. What is a 1990 Prostar worth with 1350 hrs on the engine. Here's the Craigslist listing,

If you could get it for $4000/$4500, I think it would be a good deal. I paid $4000 for a 1989 in the same area with 400 hours, original interior (in good condition), and about the same condition on the exterior.

You can refurb the trailer and gelcoat for fairly cheap and make the outside look brand new. I'd be curious to see what has been replaced on the motor (starter, water pump, carb, manifolds, etc).

I would definitely want to see a compression test done to ensure the engine is still strong. The price seems fair for MN, but it is getting late in the season so there is probably some room for negotiation as it's been on craigslist for 2 1/2 weeks.

I can't see the CL add at work, but I two years ago, I bought my 88 for $3500. 940 hours, interior in OK shape. Has a powerslot, heater and closed-loop cooling and came with a bimini and a wake pole. Trailer is a tandem axle VM with surge brakes. The rear seal on the trans was leaking, which was a $600 fix. I re-built the rear bench myself this summer for about $200 for all materials. All in, I've probably got about $5500 in to the boat. I've been very happy with it. My only complaint is that for a family with two kids, 4 and 6, it's a bit small, especially when the kids won't sit still. I'm hoping to upgrade to a 205 or maybe one of the smaller X boats in the next 4-6 years.
