Honestly i think i'd be ok with them making it against the law. In a lot of ways it's almost worse than tubing for mucking up the water. So many people/boats just surf now, if they can't do that they'd probably just stay home. I'd be ok with that.... Let the boarders and skiiers have the lake back!

One possible tact I've heard used against surfing is regarding the surfer "as another vessel" (since there is no physical connection between the boat and the surfer) and applying laws against close proximity running of vessels at speed.

Clearly BS, but disturbing nonetheless.

Around here my local representative (town guy that lives on the lake and is an avid boater/skier) has said that many people are complaining about the waves and the damage they do to docks, boats and shorelines. He said a few lake associations are trying to ban surfing on the grounds of it destroying lakeshores. Having seen first hand guys (and gals) driving their boats ~50' off shore while casting a big waves with a surfer on it I can see why they would be upset.

^ And the wave from surfing is any bigger (more damaging) than an I/O trolling at 5-10 MPH. I call BS on that, sorry.

I really don't understand the surfing craze? It looks like I would be bored with it after doing it a few times... unlike short line slalom... I can never get tired of that....

With that said.. this law seems ridiculous....

i agree with this totally after staying on a lake for a week last week my boat on the dock definitely got hammered way worse then by surfers hands down. if they could police stupidity now that would cut down on boat traffic.

if this is what they are wasting there time on i think they need to open there eyes and take a serious look at the real problems on the lakes. and trust me surfing is the least of there concern.

If it's the "first wave" theory, how do they feel about the boom?
